Constituted in 2018, The Friends of Cheney Row Park (FoCRP) works in partnership with the London Borough of Waltham Forest (LBWF) to give the local community a greater role in the management, maintenance and future of Cheney Row Park.
We are a not-for-profit community group managed by a committee of volunteers on behalf of local residents. We have received funding for tools, equipment and this website from LBWF’s Higham Hill Community Ward Funding. We are a member of The Conservation Volunteers, and are supported in our litter picking by CleanupUK.
We are open to all. Join us – it’s a great way to meet neighbours, make a positive contribution to your local area, get exercise, tackle anti-social behaviour, influence future improvements, and learn skills.
Our Aims
- To help to secure and promote the conservation and protection of the Park.
- To monitor plants, animals and wildlife habitats to maintain and improve biodiversity.
- To monitor the built environment and report problems and repairs required to the Council.
- To promote practical conservation through voluntary action for the benefit of wildlife and the community.
- To promote the Park as a place for quiet, informal enjoyment, recreation and study.
- To organise the occasional event for the enjoyment of local Park users.
- To work alongside the London Borough of Waltham Forest and its officers to meet the above aims.
Our Activities
- Tree planting after care; 400+ newly-planted trees have needed watering, weeding and mulching. They will also need pruning.
- Wildflower meadow maintenance; re-seeding, weeding out the brambles, nettles and bindweed from the patch.
- Shrub and bulb planting; spring 2021 will see new plants added to the bed by the Cheney Row entrance.
- Litter picking and tidy ups; addressing fly-tipping and accumulated debris that has made its way into the undergrowth.
- Bird and bat nesting boxes; on the to-do list.
- Fundraising and accessing grants for the benefit of the Park.
- Providing information about the Park, its trees & plants, and its history.
- Socialise with immediate neighbours over cups of tea and biscuits in the great out doors.
