The Park

Getting to The Park

Cheney Row Park is close to Banbury Reservoir in the Higham Hill area of Walthamstow, London E17 5ED.  There are entrances on Cheney Row, Durban Road, Folly Lane and Robinswood Gardens (via the Banbury Park estate).

The 158 bus (Stratford to Chingford Mount) and the W11 bus (Walthamstow Central to Chingford Hall) stop nearby.  Get off at North Countess Road, walk down the road to the left of the Co-op – this is Robinswood Gardens – you’ll find an entrance to the Park at the end of the road.

What’s in The Park

  • views over the Walthamstow Wetlands and Banbury Reservoir, complete with telescopic vision;
  • open spaces for exercise, dog walking, outdoor games, and lazing in the summer sun.

The Park’s History

Cheney Row Park has previously been: farmland owned by Salisbury Hall (the 14th century manor house where Roger Ascham once lived); a source of clay for 18th century brickmaking; the site of a late Victorian brick factory; a sports ground in the 1930’s; and a landfill site in the 1950’s.  It became protected land when it was incorporated into the Lee Valley Regional Park in 1972.  You can read the full story of Cheney Row Park here.
